Draft health reform bill outlined

Posted on June 9, 2009. Filed under: government programs, health | Tags: , |

Three U.S. House of Representatives committees (Ways and Means; Energy and Commerce, and Education and Labor) have produced a four-page outline of a potential health care overhaul bill that includes a government-run health insurance option for consumers.

The document provides a very high-level overview of possible provisions in such areas as workforce investments, prevention and wellness, insurance market reforms, affordability and access, a public health insurance option, benefits, “shared responsibility”, reforming the health care delivery system and ensuring sustainability, and modernizing, improving, and preserving medicare.

The outline does not address how much the proposals would cost, nor how they will be paid for, but then the real work of getting a health care reform bill or bills into and out of various House and Senate committees has only begun. Much more to come! –nks
