Federal IT spending expected to increase modestly in upcoming years

Federal agencies are being encouraged to use cloud computing , leading to projections that spending on cloud computing will increase by a compound annual rate of  27% over the next five years, with overall IT spending by the federal government projected to increase by a compound annual rate of 3.3% in the same period of time.  In dollar terms, overall IT spending is expected to increase to $100 billion by 2014, up from $85 billion today.

Cloud computing (technology services stored and maintained by third party providers) has been slow to catch on in many federal agencies due to security concerns, but advances in cybersecurity and administration emphasis are expected to lead to an increase in the use of cloud computing services.
