TechInfo-notes Back from Hiatus
Hi there!
It’s been almost a year since I last posted on TechInfo-notes. I didn’t intend to take that long a break, but it happened. However I’m cycling down from some of the volunteer hours I was logging last year, and eager to reactivate TechInfo-notes. I’m looking forward to sharing science and technology news of interest once again.

Just posted this to my GovInfo-notes blog, but it fits well here too …
The U.S. Department of Energy has appointed Karina Edmonds, Ph.D., as coordinator for technology transfer, filling the position on a full-time basis for the first time. Dr. Edmonds, who holds a Ph.D. in Aeronautics from the California Institue of Technology (Caltech), is currently a Director at the JPL/Caltech Office of Technology Transfer, which is responsible for transferring Caltech and Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) technologies from the lab to the commercial sector.
While she will not begin her official duties with DOE until April of this year, she is scheduled to co-present a pre-conference workshop at next week’s ARPA-E Summit, on the topic of Best Practices in Technology Transfer: Moving Ideas (and Idea-Makers) Out of the Lab.
In her role with the DOE, Dr. Edmonds will be responsible for revitalizing the transfer of technologies and other discoveries developed at the DOE national laboratories to the private sector, a process which is viewed as one of many efforts to boost the creation of potentially high-paying jobs for the U.S. economy.
At the least we can hope and expect that with a full-time coordinator there will be processes developed making it easier across the board for private-sector businesses and the national laboratories to identify each others opportunities and needs. –nks
